Operation Flashpoint
Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is a tactical shooter and battlefield simulator PC game released in 2001. Set on a group of fictitious islands in the year 1985, Operation Flashpoint puts the player on one of three sides in a hypothetical conflict between the NATO and Soviet forces led by a renegade general. The Resistance, which generally sides with NATO, is the third playable faction. Two expansion packs were released; Red Hammer, a campaign from the Soviet perspective, and Resistance, which introduced various new features and improved the graphic and sound effects. The main feature of the game is its close attention to realism.

Operation Flashpoint can be called as a father of ArmA: Combat Operations (ArmA is sometimes called Operation Flashpoint 2 but because of the trade mark issues the developer wasn’t allowed to use the Operation Flashpoint name again.).
In 2001 it was a big hit which sold over 1 500 000 copies worldwide. The player was able to controll aircrafts, cars, tanks, command squads of soldiers or to be an ordinary field soldier. Together with complex build-in editor and multiplayer support it was something that was not there before. No surprise that US Navy and some other world armies choosed to use modified Operation Flashpoint as a training tool (the game was optimised for army and named VBS1).
No surprise that the addon Operation Flashpoint: Resistance was succesfuly released one year later and completely reworked Operation Flashpoint appeared as an XBOX game in Nobember 2005 called Operation Flashpoint: Elite.
